Free window sticker generator for used car dealers.
Type the unit once and print a letter-size window sticker in your own colors: price, specs, equipment and where to see the photos. No signup, no email address, and nothing you type leaves your browser.
FTC Used Car Rule and Regulation Z read from the FTC and CFPB on 16 September 2026 · Published by Shopframe, a dealer website platform — see the disclosure below the tool. Not legal advice.
The short answer
A used car on a dealer's lot needs a Buyers Guide, not a window sticker. The FTC's Used Car Rule applies to dealers who sell more than five used vehicles in a 12-month period, in every state except Maine and Wisconsin, which have their own disclosure rules. The Buyers Guide is a government form with fixed wording; the factory Monroney label is a new-car requirement that falls on the manufacturer.
A price-and-features sticker is optional, and it is marketing: it sells the car from across the lot. It goes beside the Buyers Guide, never over it, and it is an advertisement — which is why the generator below will not print a monthly payment.
1 · The generator
Type the unit on the left, print from the right. Everything runs in this page — no request is made, nothing is stored, and there is nothing to sign up for.
Lines about your dealership — all off by default
These are claims about how you do business, so this tool will not make them for you. Tick only the ones that are true of your lot.
Nothing here is sent anywhere. Reload the page and it is gone.
Letter paper, portrait. In the print dialog, turn off headers and footers and turn on background graphics.
This is not the FTC Buyers Guide. A used vehicle offered for sale still needs its Buyers Guide posted where both sides can be seen. Put this sticker on a different window. See section 2.
Disclosure, up front: Shopframe sells dealer websites, and this is a standalone version of the window sticker that ships inside our product. Inside Shopframe every unit in your inventory already has one, filled from its record in your brand colors, one click from the Site Manager. We do not print Buyers Guides, and nothing on this page is legal advice.
2 · The Buyers Guide: the sticker a used car is actually required to carry
Who it covers. Dealers who sell, or offer for sale, more than five used vehicles in a 12-month period. It applies in every state except Maine and Wisconsin, which have their own rules, and in DC, Puerto Rico, Guam, the US Virgin Islands and American Samoa.
When. Before the vehicle is displayed for sale or a customer inspects it to buy it — even if it is not ready for delivery. You may take it down for a test drive, and put it back afterwards.
Where. In plain view, with both sides visible: hung from the rear-view or side mirror, under a wiper, or on a side window. A Guide in the glove box or under a seat does not count.
In Spanish. If you conduct the sale in Spanish, the Spanish-language Buyers Guide goes on the vehicle instead.
It becomes part of the contract. Your sales contract has to say that the window form's information is part of the contract and overrides anything contrary in it. So warranty and as-is terms belong on the Buyers Guide, exactly as agreed — not on a marketing sticker.
Can I make my own Buyers Guide?
You can print one yourself, but not design one. The FTC's guide is explicit:
“You are not allowed to place any other wording or symbols (including logos) on the Buyers Guide.” — FTC, Dealer's Guide to the Used Car Rule
It must use the Rule's wording, type sizes and format, in black ink on white paper at least 11 by 7¼ inches; you may fill in the blanks in color. That is why this generator does not make one: a branded, reformatted Buyers Guide is a non-compliant one. Download the official form from the FTC and fill it in.
The FTC's guide lists penalties of up to $53,088 per violation in its enforcement actions, and notes that many states have similar rules that local officials can enforce.
3 · Why this sticker will not print a monthly payment
The one line most dealer stickers carry, and the one most likely to be incomplete.
“$289/mo with 10% down” looks like a helpful estimate. Under federal Truth in Lending rules it is two triggering terms. Regulation Z, 12 CFR 1026.24(d), says that when a credit advertisement states the amount of a payment, the number or period of payments, the amount of a down payment or the finance charge, it must also state:
the down payment,
the terms of repayment, and
the “annual percentage rate”, using that term.
The CFPB's official interpretation adds that this applies even when the term is only implied: “80 percent financing available” is a down-payment statement. A sticker that says “$289/mo” with an asterisk pointing at “for illustration only” has stated a payment without the rate and the term.
A payment is a number your lender sets, for a buyer whose credit you have not seen. So the generator prints the price and, only if you tick it, “Ask us about financing options.” — a line with no rate, payment, term or down payment in it. If you want a payment on the glass, have your lender or compliance advisor write the complete disclosure.
Our own product did this until 16 September 2026. Every window sticker Shopframe printed carried “est. $X/mo with 10% down” under the price and “ask about financing” and “history available on request” in the footer, for every dealer. We removed the payment line the day we wrote this page, and the other two now print only if the dealer has said they are true.
4 · What goes on a used car window sticker
What the generator prints, and what it leaves off on purpose.
Line
What we print
Why
Year, make, model, trim
Large, at the top
It is what a buyer reads from across the lot. Keep the trim: it is the difference between two cars at the same price.
Price
The biggest thing on the sheet
Buyers walk the lot to compare prices. A sticker without one sends them to the next lot's.
Odometer
Your number, as typed
Never rounded. Leave it blank on a unit with no odometer (a trailer) and the row disappears rather than printing 0 miles.
Specs
Only what you filled in
A blank field prints nothing. A sticker that guesses a transmission is a written claim about a car nobody checked.
Equipment
Your list, two columns
The reason this car costs more than the one beside it. Lead with what a buyer can see and touch.
Stock # and VIN
Top right
So a salesperson can find the file, and a buyer can look the car up.
Monthly payment
Nothing
See section 3.
Condition, warranty, “certified”
Nothing
Warranty and as-is terms go on the Buyers Guide, which is part of the contract. “Certified” means a program someone runs; if you run one, say so in your own words.
A sticker for every unit, already filled in
Inside Shopframe every vehicle you add gets its own window sticker from its record, in your brand colors, alongside your website, inventory and lead inbox — on every plan, from $29 a month. Tell us about your lot and we will send you a preview of your site.
5 · Questions dealers ask about window stickers
Is a window sticker required on a used car?
Not a price sticker. What federal law requires on a used car is the FTC Buyers Guide, for dealers who sell more than five used vehicles in a 12-month period, in every state except Maine and Wisconsin, which have their own rules. The Monroney label is a new-car requirement that the manufacturer affixes. A price-and-features sticker is optional marketing, and it goes beside the Buyers Guide, not over it.
Where does the Buyers Guide go if my sticker is on the side window?
Somewhere else in plain view with both sides visible. The FTC lists hanging it from the rear-view mirror or a side-view mirror, placing it under a windshield wiper, or attaching it to a side window. A Guide in the glove compartment, trunk or under a seat does not count. Put your price sticker on a different window so it never covers the Guide.
Can I put a monthly payment on a window sticker?
Only with the full disclosure. Under Regulation Z, 12 CFR 1026.24(d), a payment amount, a down payment, the number of payments or a finance charge in an advertisement triggers a requirement to also state the down payment, the terms of repayment and the annual percentage rate. That is why this generator never prints a payment. If you want one on the glass, have your lender or compliance advisor write the complete disclosure. This is not legal advice.
Can I make my own Buyers Guide with my logo?
No. The FTC allows you to print Buyers Guides yourself, but they must use the Rule's exact wording, type style, type sizes and format, in black ink on white paper at least 11 by 7 1/4 inches, and no other wording or symbols, including logos. Download the official form from the FTC and fill in the blanks.
Is this window sticker generator free, and do you keep what I type?
Free, with no signup and no email address required. It runs entirely in your browser: nothing you type is sent to Shopframe or to anyone else, and reloading the page clears it. The only thing that reaches us is the preview form, and only if you fill it in.
What paper should I print a window sticker on?
The generator prints on US letter paper, portrait. Plain paper works inside the glass with tape; a full-sheet label or a clear sleeve lasts longer in sun. In the print dialog, turn off the browser's headers and footers and turn on background graphics so the colored price bar prints.
Does Shopframe make window stickers for my whole inventory?
Yes. Every unit on a Shopframe site has its own print-ready window sticker filled from its record in the dealer's brand colors, on every plan. It follows the same rules as this page: no payment line, and the financing, trade-in and history-report lines print only when the dealer has switched them on.
