Looking for a Dealer Car Search alternative? Here is what you are actually comparing.
Dealer Car Search is the default website provider for a large slice of the independent lot business, and it is not a bad product — it has been doing this longer than we have and it wins awards for it. But dealers search for an alternative for three specific reasons, and none of them is "the websites are ugly." They are the quote, the add-ons, and the renewal date. This page takes all three apart with their own published terms, and tells you where they beat us too.
Last updated 8 September 2026 · Written by Shopframe, a competing dealer website platform — every Dealer Car Search fact below is quoted from their own site and linked at the bottom.
The short answer
The most-cited Dealer Car Search alternatives for an independent lot are Shopframe (from $29/mo, published pricing, month to month), Carsforsale.com ($99/mo flat, plus marketplace exposure), AutoCorner ($29–$79/mo by unit count) and DealerOn ($599–$1,199/mo, aimed above the independent segment).
The structural difference is not the website. It is that Dealer Car Search does not publish a price — every product page ends in "Schedule a Demo," so what you pay depends on a quote — and it bills feature by feature: Craigslist posting is $6 per vehicle posted on top of your monthly bill, by their own published figure.
The clause that decides your timing, from their terms of service: you may cancel only at a renewal, with at least 30 days' written notice, and "in no event will we issue any refund of fees." If you are shopping, find your renewal date before you do anything else.
Disclosure, up front: Shopframe sells dealer websites and would obviously like your business. So this page is built to survive being read by someone who then chooses somebody else: everything attributed to Dealer Car Search is a direct quote from their public pages, checked on 8 September 2026 and linked at the bottom; section 2 is a straight list of things they do better than us; and section 5 tells you when to stay put. 1 · What Dealer Car Search actually is
Fair description first, because an "alternative" page that misrepresents the incumbent is useless to the person reading it.
Dealer Car Search is a Louisville-based website and lead-management provider built specifically for independent dealers — roughly 6,000 of them. Their pitch is mobile-first websites, over 60 design templates, free SSL, inventory distribution to the paid marketplaces (Cars.com, Autotrader, CarGurus), a lead dashboard that consolidates sources, and a set of add-on modules: Craigslist posting, website texting, Facebook Messenger, reputation management, inventory merchandising, premium SEO. They advertise being the 9× DrivingSales Highest Rated Website Provider, and they connect directly to the Frazer DMS, which for a Frazer dealer is a genuine, specific reason to pick them.
Their product-page URLs follow a {product}-for-car-dealers pattern across about 25 pages. What none of those pages carries is a number.
2 · Where Dealer Car Search beats Shopframe
This section is here because you should not switch on the basis of a comparison that only lists the other side's flaws. These are real gaps, and if one of them is your business, stay where you are.
- Automated Craigslist posting. Theirs integrates with the Craigslist API and posts one car or a hundred without you touching a browser, across nine dealer categories. Ours is a copy-paste ad builder — it writes the ad and fills every field for you, but a human still pastes it. Auto-posting needs bulk-posting access that Craigslist grants case by case, and we do not have it yet.
- A live Frazer DMS connection. Inventory moves between Frazer and the site without double entry. Shopframe imports a CSV export from any DMS, including Frazer, with headers auto-mapped — but you run the export. Automatic feed sync is built for HTTPS/CSV feeds and is not yet a certified Frazer integration.
- Website texting and Facebook Messenger in the same inbox. They sell both as modules. We do not have a two-way texting inbox yet; leads reach you by email within seconds and you reply from your phone.
- Track record and awards. Nine DrivingSales wins and thousands of dealers is evidence. We are new, and we would rather say that than pretend otherwise.
- Phone support. They publish a number. Our support is email only, deliberately — we would rather answer honestly by email than route you to a machine — but if you want somebody on the phone at 4pm, that is a real difference.
3 · The three reasons dealers go looking anyway
Each of these is quoted from a Dealer Car Search page, not from a review site.
a. You cannot find out what it costs without a sales call
There is no pricing page — dealercarsearch.com/pricing returns a 404, and each of the ~25 product pages ends in "Schedule a Demo" or "Request a Demo." That is a deliberate model, not an oversight, and it has a predictable consequence: two dealers on the same product pay different amounts, and neither can check. Public data points are thin by design — a dealer on the DealerRefresh forum reports around $250/mo, and a Capterra reviewer describes asking about added features and being quoted a "200% increase in price per month." Dealer Car Search's Capterra rating is 3.4/5 overall and 3.2/5 on value for money, its lowest sub-score.
b. The bill grows module by module
The website is the entry point; the things that actually sell cars are priced separately. Their own Craigslist page states it plainly:
A 40-car lot reposting its inventory twice a month is $480 a month in Craigslist fees alone, on top of the website. Texting, Messenger, reputation management, premium SEO and inventory merchandising are each their own line. And if you buy their marketing services, the terms disclose the margin: "The Marketing Spend also includes our margin of up to 30%" — that is 30% of your Google and Facebook ad budget, before a click.
c. The exit is on their calendar, not yours
Three clauses in their terms of service decide what leaving costs. All three are quoted verbatim:
You may terminate "any Renewal Term by providing at least 30 days' written notice prior to the Renewal Term."
— Dealer Car Search terms of service, §6(b), read 8 September 2026. For monthly contracts a later clause reduces this to 15 days' written notice prior to the Renewal Term.
"In no event will we issue any refund of fees."— same document, §6(e). The same clause provides that if they terminate for your breach, "any fees outstanding for the remaining Term will become immediately due and payable."
"We may increase the fees for any Service no more frequently than once during any 12-month period, or any time upon renewal… notices of price increases may be included in or accompany Client's invoices."— same document, §5. A price increase can arrive as a line on an invoice.
And one more that matters specifically to a dealer who is comparison shopping, because it governs your own data on the way out:
"We may require a signed agreement prior to exporting any Client Data, Client Content, or Consumer Data to any company we determine to be a competitor."— same document, §3(c). Read in context this sits among data-protection obligations, and a signed agreement is not a refusal — but it does mean an export to your next provider is a negotiation, not a button.
None of this is unusual for the category — most of the field writes similar terms. It is only worth knowing before you sign, and worth reading again before you shop.
4 · Side by side
Dealer Car Search figures are from their own pages and terms, read 8 September 2026, except the two marked as reported by dealers. Shopframe figures are our published prices, which you can verify in the configurator without giving us an email address.
| | Dealer Car Search | Shopframe |
| Published price | None — quote only, every page is "Schedule a Demo" | $29 / $149 / $299 / $499 per month, on the page |
| Reported real cost | ~$250/mo base (dealer-reported, DealerRefresh) plus modules | The plan price is the whole bill |
| Contract | Auto-renewing term from the Order Form | Month to month, cancel from your account page |
| Cancellation | Only at renewal, 30 days' written notice (15 for monthly) | Any time, no notice period, no phone call |
| Refunds | "In no event will we issue any refund of fees" | Prorated per our refund policy |
| Craigslist | Automated via API — $6 per vehicle posted | Ad builder, copy-paste, included on every plan |
| Setup fee | Not published | $0 |
| Design choices | 60+ templates | 1,152 combinations (4 personalities × 6 typefaces × 12 palettes × 4 hero layouts), changeable after launch |
| Try before you buy | Demo call | Build the whole site yourself first, no card, no email |
| Done-for-you edits | Dedicated website team | Growth $299 (48 hours) and Pro $499 (same day); Lite and Starter are self-serve |
| Ad-spend margin | "Up to 30%" on managed marketing spend | We do not manage ad spend, so there is none |
| Your data if you leave | Export to a competitor "may require a signed agreement" | Photos, leads, customer data and domain are yours, exportable any time |
5 · Who should switch, and who should not
Stay with Dealer Car Search if…You run Frazer and the live DMS connection saves you real hours every week. You post to Craigslist at volume and their automation is worth the $6 per car to you. You want a phone number to call. Or you are mid-term with months left and no urgency — there are no refunds, so time your exit rather than eating one.
Switch if…You cannot say what you pay without opening an invoice. Your bill has grown module by module past $300 and you cannot point at what caused it. You want to see the site before a sales call. Or you have 15 or fewer cars and are paying $250 for a platform sized for 200.
If you do decide to move, do it in the order that keeps the site up: read your cancellation clause first, export inventory, photos and lead history while your account is still in good standing, build the new site at a temporary address, repoint the domain, and cancel last. That whole sequence, with the DNS steps, is on our switching guide — and it works whoever you switch to.

Questions dealers ask about leaving Dealer Car Search
- What is the best Dealer Car Search alternative for an independent dealer?
- It depends on which part of Dealer Car Search you are trying to get away from. If it is the quote-only pricing and the module-by-module bill, Shopframe publishes every price and includes the ad builder, window stickers, leads inbox and ledger on every plan from $29 a month. If it is the price alone and you want marketplace exposure with it, Carsforsale.com is $99 a month flat. If you need automated Craigslist posting or a live Frazer DMS connection, no alternative currently matches Dealer Car Search on those two features and you should weigh that honestly.
- How much does Dealer Car Search cost?
- Dealer Car Search does not publish pricing. Every product page ends in a demo request, and there is no pricing page. The public data points are a dealer on the DealerRefresh forum reporting around $250 a month, and a Capterra reviewer who describes being quoted a 200 percent increase when asking about added features. Individual modules do have published prices: Craigslist posting is $6 for each vehicle posted, and marketing spend they manage includes their margin of up to 30 percent.
- Can I cancel Dealer Car Search at any time?
- Not at any time. Their terms of service allow you to terminate any Renewal Term by providing at least 30 days written notice prior to the Renewal Term, reduced to 15 days for monthly contracts, which means cancellation is tied to your renewal date rather than to the day you decide to leave. The same section states that in no event will they issue any refund of fees. Find your renewal date first and work backwards from it.
- Can I take my inventory and leads with me if I leave Dealer Car Search?
- Ask for the export while your account is still active and in good standing, because their terms state they may require a signed agreement before exporting client data, client content or consumer data to any company they determine to be a competitor. That is a data-protection provision rather than a refusal, but it means the export is a request that goes through their process, not a button you press on the way out. Get your CSV inventory export, your original full-resolution photos and your lead history before you give notice.
- Does Shopframe do automated Craigslist posting like Dealer Car Search?
- No, and we will not claim otherwise. Dealer Car Search posts automatically through the Craigslist API at $6 per vehicle. Shopframe gives you an ad builder that writes the ad and fills every form field, but a person still pastes it into Craigslist. Automatic posting requires bulk-posting access that Craigslist grants case by case, and we do not have it yet. If high-volume Craigslist automation is the core of how you sell cars, that is a real reason to stay.
- Is Shopframe cheaper than Dealer Car Search?
- Almost certainly, but the honest comparison is not price against price, it is price against total bill. Shopframe is $29 a month for up to 15 vehicles, $149 for up to 50, $299 for unlimited vehicles with edits done for you within 48 hours, and $499 for same-day edits, with no setup fee and no contract. Against a dealer-reported $250 a month base plus per-module add-ons and $6 per Craigslist post, most independent lots land lower with us. But we cannot tell you your Dealer Car Search number, because they will not publish it.
- Will switching from Dealer Car Search hurt my Google rankings?
- Usually not, provided you keep the same domain and set up redirects. Ranking authority attaches to the domain far more than to individual pages, so a rebuild on the same domain typically causes a one to three week wobble and then recovers. Map your old page URLs to the new equivalents with 301 redirects, resubmit your sitemap in Search Console on cutover day, and confirm the new vehicle detail pages carry structured data. What genuinely costs rankings is moving to a new domain or onto a provider subdomain.
- Do I have to talk to a salesperson to see what Shopframe looks like?
- No. The configurator on our homepage builds your actual site in the browser, with your design choices and your exact monthly price, before you give us an email address or a card. That is the deliberate opposite of a demo-request model, and it is the fastest way to answer the only question that matters, which is whether the thing looks right for your lot.
